Ergonomic Program / Ergonomic Team Set up and Initiation
Most larger facilities and institutions have the staff available to develop an in house ergonomic program. The format of this program is variable, ranging from continued ergonomic consultant involvement to ergonomic consultant support. WorkSafe can provide the necessary fundamentals to initiate an ergonomics program in your workplace.
Ergonomic programs must have certain basic elements to ensure the participation and acceptance of the end users as well as the involvement and financial backing of administrators. WorkSafe consultants can guide your workplace through these steps in order to ensure a successful and sustainable ergonomics program.
Ergonomic programs can be established that continue to utilize the expertise of an ergonomist, or an ergonomic team can be established that is generally self sufficient, only relying on an ergonomist for issues of greater difficulty.
The set up and initiation of a workplace program is a long term project. However these programs will allow a workplace to deal with issues as they present themselves and more importantly they will allow a workplace to proactively address work areas to eliminate potential hazards before they cause an injury.
Ergonomic teams consist of representatives of all staff and help to build workplace community and acceptance of future changes. In addition because of the diverse representation of staff solutions generated are more robust as a result of receiving input from all parties involved.
